Happy Thanksgiving...

Well, I'm a day late, but I had a good reason, spending time with those I love enjoying our Holiday.

A little cooking, a little sewing, a bit of this and a bit of that.

I just want to wish everyone a

Happy Thanksgiving Holiday.

Hope you enjoyed yours as much as I did.

Family, great food and good fun.

I've got a lot of Santas to make still, and enjoying every minute of it. I love this time of year.

Around the Corner...

Yep,Everything is just around the corner. Most especially the Holidays that we all love so much.

Time is running and it isn't waiting for me.

It really feels like yesterday I was on Vacation, driving to Hilton Head, South Carolina and the Temps were at 104 degrees.

And now the chill of Fall, and there is a Rainbow of Autumn colors in the trees outside my window.

I am working on Santa dolls all day, everyday. It's a good thing I love what I do and love Creating new things.

A Halloween How To...

I have this little fun Project for you to try.

I made these years ago and was just in the mood to make them again.

And I'd like to share it with you.

You will go from this...

To This...

Step 1.

Gather your Oranges,

and cut the tops off.

(save them for later)

Carefully, nice and straight now.

Step 2.

Scoop and Scrape out all the insides,

Like So...

but be careful, not to rough,
or you will get this...

This is what you should end up with...

Be sure to save the juice for Breakfast :o)

Step 3.

Get your tops, and

carefully cut out the pulp from the tops too.

And here you have it, empty Orange cups and lids...

Step 4.

Place all your hallowed out Oranges and Tops
on a Foil lined cookie sheet.

Step 5.

And here is where you will use your own judgment.

I baked mine at 275 degrees for 2-4 hours.

Watching close so they don't over cook and burn.

Like my first batch did, HA!

So be sure to check on them every half our or so after the first hour has passed.

If they are to soft or burn to much, it will be difficult to carve the face later.
Almost Ready...

You will want them just a little soft for carving easily and just a touch darkened.

They will shrink quite a bit.

Step 6.

Draw your Jack-o-lantern face.

I keep it simple here..

Very carefully use an X-acto knife to cut

away pieces.

Step 7.

Poke a tiny hole one each side of your pumpkin,
and run a rusty wire through and with pliers, curl the end of the wire to stay in place.

Step 8.

Glue in some moss and glue on the tops...

Decorate as you wish.

Step 9.

Enjoy...

I have wanted to redo this cabinet for quite some time.

A fresh piece of glass for the front and a bit of

Hand dyed paper from Netty LaCroix.

Strange, I wanted to up dated it, to make it look older.

White Wednesday...

It has been so long since I shared a

I Didn't Know What I Had...

Funny how we are on the look out for those special things we love.

But only find them when we are not looking at all.

I was at The Olde Mill Primitives shop:

and I saw this box with a tiny doll in it.

I never looked close at it but I

I grabbed it and had them hold it for me.

After a while, I remembered it and picked it up the

next time I was there.

I knew it was a doll,

and we all know how I love dolls.

Well when I got home,

I just dropped it on my desk

in my sewing room and forgot about it again.

The next day I had some sewing to do and saw it laying there,

and that is when I finally opened the box.

I took out the little doll.

That is when I got a better look at her.

What a sweet face.

Then an even closer look I see this thing on the front of her.

Wrapped in the same cloth her dress was made of was this perfect, even tinier, itty bitty Dollie.

With the tiniest painted face.

The sweetest find of all...

A Little Project...

I've been working on and I thought I'd share it for White Wednesday.

I had been looking for a dress form for a while now.

One I felt I could revamp, didn't cost much and wasn't in great shape.

My intentions were to do this...

This one was fabric covered

and not in great shape.

So first I coated it with Gesso all over.

Then I began to cover it using these

Early News Paper style shop bags
and Mod Podge.

You would think it would not

take long to cover wouldn't you...NOT!

It took me a total of

7 hours over 3 days to get-er-done...

Just the way I wanted.

I was so excited

I had only two pieces left

till I remembered,

I had to do the back too...

Ahhh... Front complete.

And onward I went

to finish the back...

All done...

I also had to do a bit of work

on the stand too.
But my itch to do one of these is now scratched.

Fun Project in the end.

(Except for the gooey-gluey fingers)

By the time I was done I wanted to keep it for myself.

It's A Wonderland Art Doll Blog Event!

Here is a peek of my sweet Alice, nearly ready for Tea.

My Alice has hand sculpted paperclay arms,

head and body & fabric legs.

Synthetic hair, scrap trims and a vintage button.

She is all hand painted with a antiqued crackle finish.

there is no end to this Madness.

Oh, its just another Alice...

I've been working on a few characters, but Alice seems to be my favorite.

And well, the others will just have to wait to be finished.

Trip To Lucketts...

More Tinsel Trading...

I just have to share this book I picked up on my trip to

The Tinsel Trading Company in NYC.

I've looked at it & read it nearly everyday since we arrived home.

It is just full of lovely pictures of the most

beautiful treasured notions from the turn of the century.

And what a great read it is as well, all about how the Tinsel Trading Co.

got started, and where all these beautiful treasured trimmings came from.

New York City...

And the Tinsel Trading Company.

I took a little trip to NYC last weekend.

We had a Fantastical time in the

Big City.

It was a belated Birthday trip my

sweet Husband planned for us to see the

Tim Burton
Exhibit at the

Museum of Modern Art.

We had to wait for the snow to melt

and the weather to warm up a bit.

So all warmed up, we hopped a Train from DC

and headed up to New York City for the weekend.

The first place we headed to, was the

I just could not resist stopping by this place I have heard so much about and pick up

a few treasures for my Dollies.

Alice...

was mostly Wonderful.

I did adore this Movie.

Most especially the Early cloths at the beginning
and the end of the Movie.
I love being inspired by Movies like this.

I just wanted to hurry home and make something with lots of color.

But I did love the Queen in White the most.

I could see it again & again, but I'll wait for the DVD.

Angels on my mind...

I have no more Snow,

not a fancy room to share,

and Flowers have yet to bloom.

But I send to you on this lovely White Wednesday,

a sweet Angel I made some time ago.

One of my most favorite I've ever made.

She resides at a dear friends home now.

She is a bit Shabby, but sweet.

I used her in one of my first Blog post.

I simply love to look back every once in a while.
Here is another...

On a not so ligher note, if I may...

I'm thinking of Angels for a good reason today.

I grew up In Huntington Beach, California and

this sweet girl was my dear friend in the 6th grade,
we were school mates and we played and laughed together.

Her name is Robin Samsoe.

She was taken senselessly & tragically

from her family and friends so many years ago.

Yesterday Robin finally may have gotten the peace and some Justice she deserved so many years ago.
And I hope now her family can get some peace.

I just wanted to Honor her memory with this mention today.

Vintage On Main...

for White Wednesday,

is a little shop just a few towns over from mine in Amherst, VA.

And what a sweet shop it is.

And the owner, Vicki Hill couldn't be sweeter.

It takes me back in time with all it's Vintage goodness.

Being cooped up so long from the snow,
(happy to say, it's all melted away,
and what we got last night is gone again this sunny morning.)

Snow In Sepia...

and the promise of Spring.

This Snow is just so beautiful to me.

And I really don't want to say goodbye to it just yet.

The ground is still covered, Winter is still settled in.

But I am awaiting Spring as if it is Christmas Morning I
am waiting for.

Working on Spring treasures for the local shops

while a half dressed snowman still lays on my work table, smiling at me & quite sure of himself.

Fresh Flowers all around helps to make the wait a bit easier and lets me now Spring will keep its Promise.

So I will... I will wait...and I will dream of the first
blooms to pop from the snow covered ground...

Time Passages...

To much Time has passed since my last post.
But I'm still here, digging my way out of Closets & Cupboards, a little early Spring cleaning.

Surrounded by the Season...

Thou only for a short time, I get to be surrounded by my Treasures of the Season.

Before I send them off to there new homes, I snap a Picture or two, to keep for my Memories.

Perhaps it was seeing the new "Christmas Carol" Movie last night that has made me realize how quickly the Holidays are coming. It was a wonderful Movie, and I really enjoyed. And it was totally inspiring as well. My most favorite of this seasons movies.
